BEST IN THE WEST RULES & INFORMATION (1) All dance couples are eligible, teachers and non teachers alike. (2) The current couple of BITW will not be eligible to compete in this year’s event but could return the following year, they will be invited to judge this years final. (3) Couples, not singles who have been placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the following National Jive Events are also illegible to compete. Chance 2 Dance (Blackpool) UK Championships, CeRoc UK Championships (London), BritRoc Championships (Brighton). Your honesty is appreciated in this matter, we will not go searching through results, and you know who you are. Please note this is only at the highest level normally known as the open championship or showcase. (3a) A 1st-3rd placed couple means just that, as long as one of the dancers above does not meet the above criteria then the new dance couple is eligible. (4) The LeRoc 2000 Championships is a locally based National Jive Event and we do not wish to exclude local dancers from the "Best in the West" Comp. So LeRoc 2000 medallists are available to compete. (5) The completion will be judged by a panel chosen on the night of the dance; if possible two teachers will make up the full panel of 8 to 10. (6) The Event organisers (Dave & Katya) will not judge any Heat, Wildcard or Final of BITW, they will choose the music, count the scores & announce the results. (7) A head judge will be chosen at random to confirm point’s totals. (8) If two couples have the same point’s totals, the most number of 1st, 2nd,3rd etc will be counted until a winner is found. This result will be made public as a tie with a tie break winner. (9) Points will be awarded over two dance tracks of which the competitors have no pre track choice knowledge. Track speed will be in the range of 120-170 beats per minute. (10) Couples will be placed 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th & 6th ECT against the following categories. (A) Moves & Content (B) Breaks & Interpretation (C) Costume & Togetherness (D) Style & Ease on Eye (11) Aerials are not banned but a max limit of 4 beats (half a bar) total airtime per track will be allowed. Think of in a class when the beats are counted 5-6-7-8, that’s it. Breaking this rule will incur a 24 point penalty or equivalent to one judge giving a 6th place in all four categories. So if you feel the WOW factor with the judges is worth the penalty, go for it. Note any contact with any other competitor during an aerial will be deamed as the aerial couples fault and cause disqualification. (12) Total points will be added up and the lowest points total will be declared first place & so on. (13) First placed couple will have a place reserved in the final (13a) Second Placed couple will return next dance to fight another day, plus have an automatic wildcard place if required. If they cannot make the next dance they will not be eligible to move it on again, so will use their wildcard entry. (13b) 3rd place will have a wildcard entry (13c) 4-7 will not be declared or points discussed with anyone. All result sheets will be destroyed as soon as competion is over. (14) The wildcard playoff will only run if more than two couples turn up, if only two, both will go straight through to final without competing. (15) If a couple are unable to make the final, the 3rd placed wildcard couple will be eligible to take their place. (16) The final will consist of all couples dancing to three tracks. (17) Trinity LeRoc decision in all matters concerning BITW competion is final. (18) Email trinityleroc@btinternet.com or call Dave 0773 6788574 with name of both competitors, contact details and your first and second preferred dance date.
